2025 Eighth of August Emancipation Celebration Events & Schedule

Pay tribute to Paducah’s African American heritage during the annual 8th of August Emancipation Celebration! African Americans in Paducah have traditionally observed this day in commemoration of their ancestors’ emancipation from slavery.
As featured on Paducah “Wall to Wall” Murals, this event originated at Stuart Nelson Park and is now hosted at venues throughout Paducah, Kentucky. Special events include a memorial service, youth activities, live entertainment, and much more.

7-11 AM: Emancipation Breakfast (Washington Street Baptist Church)
11 AM-1 PM: Free Food Distribution (Washington Street Baptist Church)
8 PM-12 AM: Emancipation Sneaker Ball (Floral Hall)

6 AM: Emancipation Celebration Run/Walk (Robert Coleman Park)
10 AM: Eighth of August Walk/Parade (Walter Jetton Blvd.)
After parade: Coleman Park Festivities
