Warner Bros. is making a movie called “With the 8th Pick?” about Kobe Bryant’s entry into the 1996 NBA Draft. The story focuses on the New Jersey Nets’ front office, which had the eighth pick and wanted Bryant, but financial issues and Kobe’s preference for the Lakers got in the way.

The movie is described as a “draft-day thriller,” similar in style to “Moneyball” or “Air”, focusing on the business side of the draft rather than Kobe’s playing career. It’s produced by Tom Brady’s company and the team behind “King Richard”. 

The title refers to the Nets’ pick that could have changed NBA history.
